JACKREE,
FERREIRA HOLD DAY ONE LEAD IN 2013 REPUBLIC BANK
JUNIOR OPEN
Port-of-Spain: Denesh Jackree and Christina Ferreira
hold the lead after day one of the Republic Bank
Caribbean Junior Open Golf Championships at St
Andrews Golf Club, Moka.
On a
sultry day at Moka, Jackree produced a solid 74 to
lead from the chasing pack of Wan Ju Lee (82),
Donald Leacock of Barbados (84) and Arvin Bhim (85).
Defending champion Christina Ferreira (78) braved
the typically tricky St Andrews greens to lead in
the girls 16-17 category over Sabrina Chan (102).
Anna
Ferreira (83) built a narrow two-stroke lead over
Ysabelle Lawrence (85) in the 14-15 girls category.
Meanwhile, in the boys 14-15 category Liam Bryden
and Varun Singh are tied for first place after both
shot 78, with Sol Joanni of Tobago is in third with
83.
In the
11-13 girls, Serena Mackenzie (82) holds a
commanding nine-shot lead over second-placed Karina
Matabadal (91).
In the
boy’s 11-13 category, Sam Avey (81) has a three-shot
advantage over Zach Correira Jonathan Greenidge who
both shot 84.
The
three-hole tournament was also staged on opening
day.
Among
the girls, Alliiyah Ali shot 21 to win ahead of her
sister Nailah Ali with Faatimah Emamalie in third.
The
boy’s winner was Daylan Riley who won on count back
from Jerseem Boodram with Suraj Seepersad in third.
Day two
of the Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Open Golf
Championships also features competition in six holes
(Thursday 11th) and with the nine-hole tournament on
Friday.
This
year marks the 12th consecutive year of sponsorship
by Republic Bank and the fourth in successive years
as the Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Open Golf
Championships.
