Petrotrin Pointe-à-Pierre Golf Club

The Junior Golf Programme at Pointe-à-Pierre Golf Club first started in 1998 when a few youngsters, with the permission of the Golf Committee, began learning the game under the tutelage of Golf Professional, Mr Roy Benny, assisted by Dave Rajkumar, a National Golfer and a few other senior players.

In 2000, when there were approximately twenty five juniors interested in playing the game, the Golf Committee gave their permission for a Programme to be initiated, under the guidance of Trinidad and Tobago Golf Professional, Mr Bernard Benny.

Since then, the programme has been extremely successful and has been instrumental in attracting many youngsters to the game of golf. Mr Benny, assisted by three other professionals, Mr Roy Benny, Mr Stephen Bishop and Mr Chan Sookraj, conducts the programme on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4.00pm to 6.00pm.

The success of this Programme has been evident in the number of young players who, since its inception, have been selected to represent Trinidad & Tobago regionally, at the annual Junior Caribbean Championships: in 2000, Victoria Seenath and Adam Montano represented the country in Jamaica; in 2001, Victoria Seenath and Dahomey Kadera went to Barbados, and in 2002, Dahomey Kadera, Stephan Coombs, Nikka Carvalho and Anneke Ward went to the Cayman Islands.

At present, there are approximately twenty five juniors in the programme. The Pointe-à-Pierre Golf Committee continues to lend its support and encouragement and with the unstinting dedication and guidance of Mr Benny and his team, the future of golf in Trinidad and Tobago is, indeed, secure.

Interestingly, Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean’s golf professionals Stephen Ames and Chris Harries began their illustrious careers on this very course in Pointe-à-Pierre. And, who knows, there may be others among these kids who will follow in their footsteps.
